Restricting himself to Indian rural economy scenario, the author critically analyses performance to Central Government regarding creating new employment opportunities during the Eighth Plan period and thereafter. Through relating these to the salient characteristic features of unemployment, he points out the failures and weaknesses in this regard; he also indicates some potential areas which could be tapped for better results.
