Singh, Chandra B.P.
Institutionalising panchayat system in India - 1998 - p.824-830. - Oct-Dec
Following a discussion on the concept of institution, distinction between public organisation and institution, and bipolarity of institution-building process, the author discusses Panchayats as institutions and the change brought about in these since the enactment of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment. Then, with a diagonistic angle, he identifies the factors that could account for PRIs' institutionalisation - such as politicisation, leadership, boundary management, environment, etc. He emphasises role of better coordination in PRIs' institutionalisation in India. - Reproduced
