Forts in Delhi - Yojana - 68(6), Jun, 2024: p.36-40

The earliest fort in Delhi can be dated to the 11the century, when the Tomar ruler Anangpal built the fort called Lal kot,. Later, the fort was extended by Pritviraj Chauhan by throwing up massive ramparts around it, and this enlarged city is known as Qila Rai Pithora, the forts of the so called seven cities of Delhi. The Red Fort blends Mughal, Persian, Tamarind, and Hindu styles seamlessly. Every years, on India’s Independence Day, the Prime minister hoists the national flag at the red forts, continuing a tradition that symbolizes the country’s sovereignty and unity.
