The Slum Rehabilitation Authority in Mumbai is doing more harm than good, yet there is talk of adopting the “sra model” in other states as well. An alternative is to take slum lands and parts of other public lands off the market and dedicate them to low- and lower-middle-income housing with social amenities. Just as land for certain social amenities is off the market, to be used only for its specified purpose, land for housing lower-income groups should be off the market and not for sale, regardless its value. – Reproduced
