Marriage customs and practices in India: Continuity and Change - Economic & Political Weekly - 60(31), Aug 2, 2025: p.40-46
Drawing on evidence from the India Human Development Survey-II, 2011–12, prevailing marriage customs and practices in India are analysed empirically. Issues such as mate selection, dowry, endogamy and exogamy, consanguinity, and hypergamy marriage practices across major states and socioreligious groups are analysed. The traditional norms of marriage continue to uphold the structure of patriarchy in Indian society. - Reproduced
