Do caste-based disparities and policy formation influence multidimensional poverty? : Evidence from rural Himachal Pradesh - Economic & Political Weekly - 61(13), Mar 28, 2026: p.38-45
The intersections of caste, family characteristics, income, consumption expenditure, multidimensional poverty, and government schemes in Chamba district, Himachal Pradesh are examined. The analysis identifies significant disparities among caste groups, highlighting that general caste families generally experience higher socio-economic advantages, while Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste, and Other Backward Class families face greater challenges in terms of income, consumption, and multidimensional poverty indicators. The evaluation of government schemes further reveals variability in their effectiveness. These findings underscore the need for targeted policy interventions, particularly in areas such as financial literacy, health insurance, and access to basic amenities. –Reproduced
