All welfare benefits for communities living at subsistence levels are linked to the 12-digit Aadhaar ID containing demographic and biometric data, though it is officially voluntary. Introduced to curb fraud in welfare delivery, Aadhaar has produced new problems. A rapid survey in Kinaroo village, Bihar, found that 116 of 124 Scheduled Caste households faced Aadhaar-related barriers to accessing entitlements.-Reproduced
