United states and neocolonialism in Latin America in the twentieth century: a case study of Cuba - 2006 - p.156-73.
This paper seeks to examine the engagement of the United States with Latin America and Cuba in the light of the broadly accepted thesis that colonialism treats colonies as trade assets. they are sources of raw materials as well as customers for manufactured products. The paper argues that US policies in Latin America were essentially similar to colonialism even though they did not involve formal incorporation of territories. The relationship was characterized by both exploitation and subordination. It has also resulted in what has been called the development of underdevelopment. Within the basic theoretical framework, statistical data has been examined to substantiate the view. - Reproduced.
