Summary, etc. Kerala had achieved the below replacement level of fertility three decades earlier and is now heading to zero growth rate presently. In this scenario, the article attempts to build an understanding of the sequential processing of urbanisation and the distribution of towns and its characteristics in the state over a period of time. The study s fully based on different census data and the literature. Under this study urban data for all the districts in Kerala have taken, and the major cities that are above one million populations have been considered. The urbanisation trends of India and Kerala are discussed in relation to development of cities and slums. The mind-blowing growth of towns in Kerala is amazing over the census decade. The emerging cities and towns of Kerala are not because of high migration but the reclassification of villages into urban areas. The development of cities with above one million of population has recorded the peak level with respect to the total population of the city. Nevertheless Kerala is the lowest slum populous state, it shows exponential slum growth rate higher than the city growth rate. - Reproduced.
