This issue contains series of articles on rural banking and land reforms. The author describes that the Banking commission(1972) made the recommendation that a claim of Rural Banks be established in addition to the regular branches of commercial bankes already operating or to be opened in rural areas. It was ot the opinion that in a country like India, where diversities abound, any single type of financial institution to meet the financial needs of people in the rural areas would not be an appropriate method of dealing with the problem of rural credit.
