With a discussion on new conceptualisation on State's role in development in the changed context of liberalisation in developing nations, the author focuses on reforms in Indonesia. Identifying the political, social and economic factors that make Indonesia a unique case, he spells out details of tremendous advantages of amazing pace of economic development that Indonesia has registered so soon for the rest of the world to wonder, despite cases of corruption involving its President's family members. To illustrate, he gives details of the process of deregulating economy; establishing private-public sector linkage in developing infrastructure; streamlining policy-making process and government apparatus with decentralisation and professionalisation; and reforming public enterprises.
