Summary, etc. The opening up of the economy and domestic reforms are central to all economic reform programmes. The domestic reforms will change the society and value system. New value system will have a definitive influence on the human behaviour, value priorities, morality, ethics, virtues, code of conduct etc. In due course of time, economic dimensions will, solely govern the human behaviour. The market signals based on the calculation of profit and loss will overtake all other considerations. New pressures and demands will be generated for Criminal Justice System in general and police in particular. Economic sector is the high risk crime prone area in the context of liberalised policies. Criminal procedure meant for trial of criminal cases under Indian Penal Code can't be effective for dealing with economic offences. The purpose of trial will be defeated if the trial in economic cases in unduly delayed. We need to enact and enforce additional special laws to deal with economic crimes that may surge with the new economic policy. - Reproduced
