Summary, etc. One of the obstacles for effective functioning of the civil society is the continuing deprivation of vast sections of people and the denial of distributive justice. In Kerala with the spread of education and the implementation of land reforms the State has facilitated the growth of civil society which unfortunately political parties are attempting to monopolise and hijack for their narrow ends. The market may tend to liberate them from this unhealthy subordination though it may at the same time aggravate the social inequalities thereby negating the capacity of civil society to influence governance. - Reproduced
