Picking up Drucker's suggestion on manager's role going beyond Management in the new century, the author examines conceptually the basic nature of the discipline. Then he takes a closer look on Indian model of management, both retrospectively (on AICTE lines) and prospectively. About possibilities in the field of management in the 21st century, he takes into cognisance rapid developments in knowledge (IT) industry, current boom in management, its role in designing of an organisation to ensure effective coordination, and strategic planning. He predicts that Indian economy, remaining managerial economy up to 2010, will convert itself into entrepreneurial economy by 2020. To him, this transformation will come about through indigenisation of the discipline, drawing of course the best from abroad, on the lines suggested by Udai Pareek. - Reproduced |
