Attempting a systematic leadership analysis of all the five Congress Prime Ministers, who have held office so far in our republic, the author first familiarises the readers with the conceptual framework of the psycho-political approach evolved by thinkers and academics. He then picks up each Congress Prime Minister to analyse distinctive features of his/her personality, impinging on leader-follower relationship, to facilitate a proper understanding of his/her role as Prime Minister (he reorders the sequence of PMs by taking up three generations of Nehru family first followed by Shastri and Rao). Through out his analysis, he tends to suggest that democracies should look at their leaders more critically and realistically before clearing them for the crucial and coveted positions like Prime Minister as a safeguard against harm and frustration that may result from making a wrong choice. - Reproduced |
