The utility of biological analogies such as "organisational ageing" rests with our understanding of these biological phenomena and the insight which can be derived from that understanding when these analogies are applied to behaviour of social systems. This paper is intended to heighten the reader's awareness of biological analogies as heuristic aids to managers by explicit illustration of the negative and positive consequences of organisational ageing and to suggest strategies for counterbalancing the negative forces operating in ageing organisations as one strives to increase organisational productivity. - Reproduced |
