It seeks to understand the nature of incidents of dalit assertion and analyses the various factors which have been influencing such occurrences. Although he caste system in Punjab is not as rigid as it is found in other parts of India yet it has been playing an important role in state socio-political setup. The paper also endeavors to identify the reasons which played a crucial role to break the rigidity of case system in the state.
