Micro-finance acquires great significance in a growing economy like India, particularly in terms of improving employability. The present paper intends to underline the impact of micro finance on economic upliftment of the poor. As such the trends and purpose of borrowings and its impact of economic conditions of the poor have been examined. Further, a comparison between participants and non-participants SHGs (microfinance users) has been done to mark the impact. It was found that improvement was greater among participants in comparison to non-participants. Further, these micro-finance institutions created jobs and income for the poor particularly the women. On the contrary, it was also noticed that it did not have adequate impact on education and health conditions of the participants of micro finance. There is chasm between degree of success of rural and urban areas. It can easily be concluded that there is need of a public policy of strict regulation for the micro financial institution and non-governmental organisations working in the field of micro-credit. – Reproduced |
