Summary, etc Ashwagandha is an important medicinal plant used in the traditional system of medicine from ancient time. Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (Council of Scientific & Industrial Research) (CSIR-CIMAP) introduced and promoted the Ashwagandha cultivation on large-scale through bio-village mission mode approach in semi-arid tropics of Deccan Plateau. The present study was conducted in Kurnool and Anantapur districts of Andhra Pradesh. The study is based on primary data. The primary information was obtained from 100 farmers through pre-structured interview schedule in order to estimate the socio-economic status of farmers and their resource use structure. About one third of cost of cultivation was accorded to harvesting (31.70%) followed by cost incurred in intercultural operations (19.46%). The Benefit Cost ratio of Ashwagandha crop cultivation was observed as 3.08:1. The resource use efficiency of Ashwagandha crop was also calculated by using multiple linear regression method. R2 value was found to be very high. The yield of Ashwagandha was positively and significantly influenced by all the independent variables except the plant protection. The correlation between the yield and input use in Ashwagandha shows that cultivation of Ashwagandha is highly correlated with all the variables except irrigation and plant protection due to cultivation in the rainfed area. – Reproduced
