This paper studies the role of MGNREGA and NFSA in providing the necessary relief and support to people in a crisis like COVID-19. It draws from the data available on government websites as well as studies and reports published in the last few months including data gathered informally from the experiences of people active on the ground. While this paper reiterates the importance of such entitlements, it also highlights the shortcomings in the implementation of MGNREGA and NFSA and suggests some policy changes. © 2021 Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
