Summary, etc Ways of Remembering Jallianwala Bagh and Rabindranath Tagore’s Response to the Massacre, an installation exhibition held at the Victoria Memorial Hall, Kolkata, for a short time in March 2020 before the pandemic-induced lockdown, is the subject of this dialogue piece. The installation exhibition was conceptualised, researched and curated by Kolkata-based independent researcher and writer Sarmistha Dutta Gupta, and artistically directed by Sanchayan Ghosh who teaches at Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati, Santiniketan with support from the Victoria Memorial Hall. The installation engages with past (historical and archival), and current understandings of the massacre in Amritsar on 13 April 1919 which saw Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer ordering his troops to open fire on an unarmed crowd resulting in the death 379 people officially and injuring over 1,200. – Reproduced
