Summary, etc The United Nations Charter requires that all UN personnel must maintain the highest standards of integrity and conduct. The UN is committed to ensuring that all its personnel deployed globally serve with professionalism, courtesy and dignity. Allegations of Misconduct as well as Sexual Exploitation and Abuse by peacekeepers from various nations have often tarnished the image of the mission they represent and UN in general. India’s excellent track record in the area of Conduct and Discipline has given it valuable lessons by keeping the levels of indiscipline to the minimum and rigorously training its peacekeepers for the same. This article attempts to understand the salience of Conduct and Discipline in UN Peace Operations, Indian Army’s approach to the same while deploying troops in various missions and important lessons that can be carried forward for the future. – Reproduced
