Summary, etc Studies have established that women spend a significant amount of time on unpaid and care work compared to men in families. Women are usually considered as caregivers and men as breadwinners. The present paper examines the gender dynamics of rural fisher folk communities. The time spent on unpaid and care work varies significantly between men and women. An attempt is made to understand the implications of care burden on women. The paper discusses the need for recognition and redistribution of unpaid work and care work in families and also emphasises the need for policies to provide subsidised public services to meet care agenda. –Reproduced
