| Summary, etc | Capitalism, as it is currently practised, has contributed to the exploitation of natural resources and the emission of greenhouse gases, leading to the ongoing climate crisis. To address this issue, many experts have proposed reforms to capitalism that would make it more sustainable and environmentally friendly. This may include changes to measuring economic progress beyond gross domestic product (GDP) and shifting from a linear to a circular economy, promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency, and implementing carbon pricing, among other solutions. Climate change is causing rising temperatures, more frequent and intense natural disasters, melting polar ice caps, sea level rise, and shifts in weather patterns and ecosystems. This is leading to severe impacts on human health, food security, infrastructure, and natural resources and exacerbating existing social and economic inequalities. The book under review deals with this important issue the world is facing today. The book is divided into two parts. Part 1 deals with the issue of economic growth and capitalism and covers four chapters. Part 2 dwells on the green plan to avoid climate-led disasters and provides a blueprint for green capitalism.- Reproduced https://www.epw.in/journal/2023/37/book-reviews/green-capitalism-and-growth.html |
