Summary, etc Development of irrigation infrastructure is key for agriculture growth in the state of Bihar. Farmers of the State have been using groundwater as major resource for irrigation. Data/information on groundwater irrigation reveals patterns and status of utilisation as well as multiple challenges in harnessing the resource. Government role in supporting farmers through policies/strategies is critical for development of groundwater irrigation as well as making it accessible to farmers. Acknowledging its role in achieving the visions of the Agriculture Road Map of Bihar, State government has launched multipronged policy measures for augmenting groundwater based irrigation. The paper analyses recent data on groundwater irrigation in the state as well as key policy initiatives.- Reproduced
