Summary, etc Mental healthcare in Indian prisons is a pressing concern, as incarcerated individuals commonly suffer from mental health disorders that hinder their well-being and rehabilitation prospects. Considering mental healthcare as a fundamental human right, it becomes an ethical obligation to ensure that incarcerated individuals receive appropriate treatment and support. Thus, it becomes an urgent imperative to examine the roles of healthcare providers, policy makers, implementing agencies and the concerned legal framework. As such, the objective of the present paper is to state of mental healthcare, identify the challenges faced in implementation of the mental health care policy for prisoners and its remedies in the policy process. It further goes to trace the possible effects of the policy reforms and suggesting measures for achieving more rehabilitative prison environment for the benefit of society.- Reproduced
