Summary, etc Education viewed as most important tool of empowerment and development for the most deprive communities. Education is directly correlated to employment and social change among tribes since independence. Last six decades of literacy trends shows changes from 8.53 percent (1961 Census) to 58.96 percent (2011 Census). However, tribal girl’s literacy is further low and in order to improve their participation in development process as well as strengthen their education. Indian government has initiated several programmes for educational development of tribals such as Ashram Schools, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya, Ekalavya Model Residential Schools and Vocational Training Centers, Pre-Matric and PostMatric scholarships, Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship etc. However, civil society organizations also contributed towards tribal education upliftment both in pre and post independent India. The present paper examines the roles of Government organisation and non-government organization in tribal development in general with special reference to Ashram schooling system in Udaipur district of Rajasthan.- Reproduced
