Summary, etc The fisheries sector is one of the important subdivisions of India’s agricultural sector. it is accepted as a substantial income and employment generator to the country and stimulates the growth of numerous subsidiary industries. However, the socio-economic conditions of the fishermen in India remain very low. Kerala is one of India’s major coastal states, and fishermen’s socio-economic conditions follow the national pattern. The primary reason behind this backwardness is the lack of education and the uncertainties of their occupation. Educational attainment is an essential criterion for allocating individuals to better occupation and economic status. The paper examines education’s influence on intergenerational occupational mobility among the fishermen community in Kerala with particular reference to the Poonthura fishing village. – Reproduced
