| Summary, etc | India’s public healthcare capacities have diverse and unique challenges, with the majority of its population facing access deficits to health facilities, funding and drugs at three levels of healthcare primary, secondary and tertiary; this problem which came into sharp focus during the Covid-19 pandemic. We have to meet the policy mandates set by the latest National Health Policy 2017,1 and achieve the targets of the UN Sustainable Development Health related Goals by 2030, (United Nations Development Programme, 2015) besides finding solutions to the issue of underfunding of the health sector and shortage of qualified staff.
