Amitav Ghosh is perhaps the only modern Indian writer who has consistently written about environmental issues in his fiction and non-fiction works long before these issues acquired the kind of centrality in transnational discourses as they do now. From the novels The Hungry Tide (2005) and Sea of Poppies (2008) to his non-fictional works, such as The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable (2016) and The Nutmeg’s Curse: Parables for a Planet in Crisis (2021), Ghosh seems particularly interested in the planetary crisis and its various manifestations witnessed all around theworld.
