This article examines dowry deaths in Kerala through the lens of Nattukar (local community actors) and their role in shaping responses to gender violence. It reassesses the adequacy of existing interventions and highlights the limitations of institutional mechanisms in addressing the persistence of dowry-related deaths. By foregrounding community practices and the lived realities of women, the study calls for reimagining social needs and policy frameworks. The analysis situates dowry deaths within broader questions of gender justice, cultural continuity, and the responsibilities of both state and society in combating systemic violence.
