| Summary, etc | Pride in the historicity and legacy of a country is awareness of its potential. While giving verbal support to broader concepts of the Indian subcontinent and India’s role both regionally and worldwide, in practice, policymakers have aimed low where the potential is concerned. A consistent trait has been to look at the country through the lens of outside powers, including those who ruled over parts of India in previous centuries. The geopolitical imprint of India was from the start of the Republic not simply what was termed ‘South Asia’ but what may be termed Southern Asia, the arc of territory spanning from West Asia to South-East Asia. It needs to be mentioned that Southern Asia does not include the People’s Republic of China (PRC), either in a geographic or in any other context.- Reproduced https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/13915614241277679 |
