| Summary, etc | Aggregate numbers of government spending or the economic output of a State or the outstanding debt of a State government are an important macro-economic indicators to be tracked over time to measure overall progress in economic development. However, equally important is the issue of distributive aspect of economic growth. Growth with a State may suffer reginal imbalances and also across different strata of people by income and wealth they enjoy. 2. Most rudimentary of all measures to assess distributive aspect of economic growth is the metric of per capita income. Comparisons of per capita income across governments worldwide and across States within the country provide a rough and ready ‘Human Development Indicator’.- Reproduced https://ipaiindia.org/pdffiles/Journal%20July%20-%20December%202023.pdf |
