520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc The elaborate procedures for rules-based, automatic and prompt settlement of disputes in the World Trade Organization functioned quite well until the United States started blocking the appointment of appellate body members, putting the security and predictability of the multilateral trading system into question. Several attempts have been made to clarify and improve the dispute procedures but no consensus has emerged so far. This has not only led to adverse implications for countries of the global South but also undermined the efficacy of the WTO itself. – Reproduced
