| Summary, etc | The overall objective of this special issue introduction is to advance the knowledge of the digital transformation of government focusing on the Asia Pacific Region while providing insights into addressing salient challenges around the world. Government digital transformation includes the relationships between government and societal stakeholders, public policy and decision-making, and the production and delivery of public services (Eom & Lee, Citation2022; Mergel et al., Citation2019). Expanded applications of advanced smart technologies and integrated service delivery systems in the public sector, and the recent COVID-19 pandemic crisis, provide further opportunities to reframe digital transformation under the frameworks of robust governance (Ansell et al., Citation2024), platform government (Kim et al., Citation2022), agile government (DeSeve, Citation2020), and algorithmic bureaucracy (Vogl et al., Citation2020). The Asia Pacific region witnesses technological innovations, successes in digital government, and digital government development challenges. Lessons from this region can not only guide the success of digital transformation but also provide insights for reframing digital transformation governance, decision-making, and implementation in the region and beyond. This introduction first summarises and highlights the contents of the seven articles. The regional coverage includes South Korea, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, and Taiwan, providing various administrative, institutional, demographic, and technological contexts and the diverse dynamics and perspectives of government digital transformation. The second part of the introduction presents the collective insights of these articles into several salient challenges and opportunities of government digital transformation facing governments worldwide.
