| Summary, etc | The author is thankful to colleagues at IHD, G C Manna, Balwant Mehta and Ravi Srivastava for their valuable comments on the papers in this review issue.] Over the past four decades, India’s economic journey has been marked by a remarkable growth, transitioning from a slow growth, comparatively insular economy to one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies. This transformation, catalysed by the policy reforms of 1991, opened the economy to global markets and foreign investments, and accelerated infrastructure and technology development. As the country strives towards its ambitious goal of becoming a developed country, the quality and inclusiveness of its economic growth are under scrutiny.
