Over the past four decades, India’s economic journey has been marked by a remarkable growth, transitioning from a slow growth, comparatively insular economy to one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies. This transformation, catalysed by the policy reforms of 1991, opened the economy to global markets and foreign investments, and accelerated infrastructure and technology development. As the country strives towards its ambitious goal of becoming a developed country, the quality and inclusiveness of its economic growth are under scrutiny. Labour markets and employment generation, essential facets of inclusive growth, remain central to this discourse, especially considering India’s uneven regional development and demographic transition.- Reproduced
