Summary, etc Analysis suggests worsening of India’s rural transformation, aggravating from “being stunted” to a rupture. Labour movement from agricultural to non-agricultural sectors had weakened since the early 2010s. Signs of reverse mobility, from non-agricultural sectors to the agricultural sector are visible since the 2020s, with significant addition in unpaid family work. The drivers of rural non-farm employment, namely construction, agro-based manufacturing such as textiles, food and beverages, tobacco, and trade have declined. Trends in value added and wages in the RNFS also signal stagnation. Under such circumstances, households have adopted a risk-mitigating strategy of mixed employment, especially among the lower income groups. Such mixed households are replacing both non-agricultural and agricultural households.- Reproduced
