Summary, etc Higher education is given prime importance in the international development agenda as well which is evident from the United Nations Sustainable Development (SDG) Goal 4. With the expansion of higher education participation, universities have acquired a larger potential for contributing to societal development. Therefore, it is high time to analyse the educational institutions particularly the higher education from the spatial lens. Lefebvre’s socio-spatial dialectic explores the potential of space and place in the analyses of the processes and practices of exclusion and inclusion. Against this backdrop, the present research paper brings to the fore the disparities in the spatial distribution of higher education institutions (Universitie/Colleges) in Bihar. The paper also presents comparative trends in the gross enrolment ratio in higher education in India and Bihar in order to present a scenario of student enrolment in higher education institutions of Bihar. Based on secondary sources, the paper attempts to analyse the distribution of higher education facilities across the state in order to identify the deprived localities of higher education facilities. The situation suggests that there is need to go for additional higher education institutions. – Reproduced
