| Summary, etc |
Logistics cost refers to the expenses incurred during the supply chain process to ensure goods are transported and made available to consumers. These costs typically include transportation, warehousing, inventory carrying, inter-city transfer tolls, and administrative services. National Logistics Policy (NLP), is a comprehensive and inter disciplinary framework that covers urban and rural development challenges in India. Its objective is to minimise the logistics cost so as to be competitive. The logistics cost in India is reported as 13-14 per cent while in other countries, it is about 7-8 per cent. India notified its National Logistics Policy (NLP) in September 2022 with the objective to minimise the logistics costs. The paper discusses the meaning, targets, significance, and deliverables of NLP. Other aspects discussed include NLP in conjunction with other infrastructure programmes like, Gati Shakti, Sagar Mala, Bharat Mala, Ease of Doing Business (EoDB), Supply-chain management, Just in Time (JIT) towards logistics cost estimation, estimation of logistics cost for India, and challenges for implementation of NLP.-Reproduced |
