Poverty eradication through addressing gender inequality has been an important policy intervention for many decades now though the specificities of it have been redefined and refined over time. The state of Kerala is known for affirmative state policies and programmes to address social inequalities which facilitated important changes. One of the most acclaimed intervention that is aimed towards addressing women’s economic inequality is the Kudumbashree Programme. The programme has attracted interest not only at the national level but also at the global level for its unique structure and functioning. Though there has been academic interest on the subject, studies have mostly been on specific dimensions or locations. Existing studies though provided deeper insights on a particular aspects and/or locality, have been unable to provide a comprehensive picture of the programme at the state level. In this context, the study commissioned by Kudumbashree Mission and undertaken by Laurie Baker Centre for Habitat Studies to evaluate the impact of Kudumbashree keeping its objectives as the base, is timely and commendable. The book is a revised version of the report that was submitted to the Kudumbashree Mission in 2017 with an Afterword which captures the role of Kudumbashree in the management of the 2018 floods and the COVID pandemic.- Reproduced
