| Summary, etc | An Interview is two-way communication wherein interviewer evaluates interviewee’s ability, skills and suitability for a job from different angles by various types of interviewing methods and techniques. Being essential for effective results, the interviewer plans interview in such a way that interviewee feels comfortable during the interview. Selection Interview is one of the important steps for the selection of a suitable, skilled and potential employee for an organisation. Interviewer is responsible for the selection of employees in organisations. It is a challenging job for an interviewer to do the needful. To evaluate the interviewee, interviewer must have the required qualification, knowledge, experience, talent and appropriate interviewing skills. This study explores the set of skills that an interviewer must possess for assessing a candidate. Based on review of literature, an Inventory was developed to identify the Interviewing Skills. Interviewing Skills Inventory had a composition of 100 skills with purposive sample of 200 interviewers who had 10+ yrs of experience of interviewing. Findings of this study show that Set of Interviewing Skills vary from profession to profession according to their requirements, experiences, beliefs, working culture and mind set. This study will be helpful for interviewers, executives and all those professionals who interview people as a part of their job.
