The early Vedic period seemingly fostered an environment where women could access education and engage in intellectual pursuits, a stark contrast to later eras where their roles became increasingly confined to domesticity. This transition from relative equality to restricted access highlights the complex interplay of socio-cultural factors that shaped the educational landscape for women in Ancient India. By the time of the Gupta period, women's access to education had declined dramatically. The number of women who pursued higher learning had become very rare. Such a dramatic decline in the education of women was due to many socio-cultural and religious factors. Therefore, the paper is an attempt to shed light on the importance of education and the impact it had on the overall position of women.- Reproduced |
