Summary, etc The Model Prison and Correctional Services Act, 2023 offers little provisions for rehabilitation of prison inmates in India. Controlling for state domestic product per capita, welfare expenses and density of inmates in prison for each of the 18 major states in India for data coverage between 2001 and 2023, it is shown that expenditure per inmate has a positive and statistically significant impact on the number of rehabilitated persons with a one-year forward lag. – Reproduced
