| Summary, etc | The non-tribal ethnic group Kurmi (Sadan) community are native of Jharkhand and enjoyed tribal status till 1950. But they have been deprived of Scheduled Tribe status from 1950 itself. Since then, the community has been struggling to get their due, i.e. status of Scheduled Caste. The nature of their movement has been changing over the periods. The community has also been part of Jharkhand movement. But in recent years, their struggle has not only been aggravated but attracted attention of policy makers and political actors of Jharkhand. No doubt granting them ST status has constitutional implications, particularly Art. 341 and 442 of Indian constitution. It will not only be beneficial for them in protection of their socio-economic and political but also strengthen their claim that they are the sons of Jharkhand soil. The movement definitely attracts the attention of political parties for electoral prospects.
