Summary, etc In order to comply with the fundamental principles of human dignity and labour rights, it becomes crucial to understand how the well-being of the workers has taken shape during industrial growth and development in an economy. While income, working conditions, social security, work–life balance, health, and unionisation are considered critical drivers of labour well-being, addressing these aspects is imperative to make the workforce involved in the process and promote the growth of the sector. The paper attempts to assess the contemporary situation of labour well-being in India with a case study of the leather cluster of Kanpur. The objective is to understand the nature, structure, and functioning of the cluster and the state of workers’ well-being therein. The paper follows a mixed methodological framework using survey questionnaire, individual interviews, and focus group discussions involving factory workers, labour officials, factory owners, and trade union leaders. Insights from the study confirm the need for proper implementation of the related laws, particularly regarding the well-being of the workers. Accordingly, the paper suggests how the conflicting interests between various stakeholders can be addressed for greater inclusiveness and sustainability of the Kanpur Leather Cluster.- Reproduced
