Social tensions can assume alarming proportions with an increase in the exchange value of situations and factors that create rift and instigate group identifications. This article analyses how the society is experiencing political and administrative failure in addressing the root cause of growing social tensions and pressures on citizens to cope with these situations. It suggests political and administrative interventions to arrest the process of commodification of social tensions. Civil society institutions, however, have a much vital role to play in promoting social justice and restoring mutual trust and interaction between conflicting groups. Strengthening of ethical foundations of polity and administration is a task that both State and civil society institutions need to address. - Reproduced. |
