Sally Burch argues that there is enormous potential for marginalized social groups to take advantage of the Internet for networking. The experience of Latin American social movements is demonstrating that participation in social dynamics is a strong incentive. But connectivity is only the first step. A study has explored how social networks are using this technology, the obstacles they face and the challenge of appropriating it, to fulfil their own goals.
