Summary, etc. The country has paid the price of green revolution in terms of acute groundwater depletion. Recurrence of droughts and deterioration of groundwater quality in various parts of the country can be attributed to excessive draw on this source. Sustainability of rural water resources has thus come to the real problem in the coming years. This article focuses on the ways to address the issues of water quality and sustainability of sources. Although added attention is now been paid towards sensitising the people on water harvesting, water recharge and other conservation techniques, the author re-emphasises the need to empower the rural communities to manage and conserve their resources. - Reproduced.
