Summary, etc. Pune city experienced rapid industrial growth, especially after 1961. This growth has been accompanied by an enormous growth in the population of the city, which is mainly attributed to migration. Among other things, the present study was undertaken with the purpose of understanding the nature of migration to Pune city, the contribution of migrants to the city's economy and society and how they have assimilated in the mainstream of urban life. This is done through a study of the characteristics of the migrants in terms of their socioeconomic background, the reasons for migration, their links with the place of origin, occupational structure, etc. The study uses both primary as well as secondary sources of data for the purpose.
