Material type: materialTypeLabelArticlePublisher: 2015-2016Description: p.48-64.Subject(s): Electricity | Solar energy In: NagarlokSummary: Electricity is becoming the basic necessity of today's world. People cannot imagine their life without electricity. Even for the basic needs like food production; electricity is used. The demand of electricity is increasing, as with the urbanization more and more things are becoming electronic in nature. But the supply of electricity is not meeting the demand side. The main reason behind this is the shortage of fuels for generating electricity. India is highly dependent on coal for generating electricity which is finite in nature leads to dependence on imports. Campus is a place where electricity is needed for 24 hours and shortage of it directly affects the qualitative functioning of campus. So, there is need to adopt alternative energy resources at site level that can supplement the existing energy and overcome the shortage. In this article, technology of generating electricity from solar panels is discussed. Then, the possible installed capacity of panels within the GNDU campus are worked out to supplement the existing source of electricity. - Reproduced.
